Science Olympiad Answers Explained

1. Q1 — (b): potato is a modified stem, beetroot is a root, mushroom reproduces by spores and Bryophyllum can form new plants from leaves.
2. Q2 — answer (b), illustrated question: the answer guide identifies A as the anther and B as the ovary. Use the flower diagram itself to confirm the labelled positions rather than memorising the option letter.
3. Q3 — (a): gram has two cotyledons and is a dicot. Wheat has one cotyledon and is a monocot, so only statement A is correct.
4. Q4 — answer (a): the scientific statements are: Kharif crops are generally sown with the monsoon (true); dandelion seeds are mainly dispersed by wind (so the animal statement is false); continuous irrigation is not appropriate (false); crops do need protection from pests and disease (true).
