Answer and explanation: B. 73. Seven plus six ones is thirteen: exchange ten ones for an extra ten, leaving seven tens and three ones.
- Subtraction: 82 − 37 = ? A. 45 B. 55 C. 49.
Answer and explanation: A. 45. Exchange one ten so 12 − 7 = 5; then 7 − 3 = 4 tens.
- Multiplication: Five trays each contain four apples. How many apples? A. 9 B. 20 C. 25.
Answer and explanation: B. 20. Five equal groups of four give 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 20.
- Division: Twelve counters are shared equally among four children. How many per child? A. 3 B. 4 C. 8.
Answer and explanation: A. 3. Twelve split into four equal groups makes three each.
- Place value: Which number is greatest? A. 409 B. 490 C. 419.
Answer and explanation: B. 490. All have four hundreds; the number with nine tens is greatest.
- Time: School begins at 9 o’clock and finishes two hours later. When is that? A. 10 B. 11 C. 12.
Answer and explanation: B. 11 o’clock. Move the clock hand forward from nine to ten to eleven.
- Capacity: A full 2-litre container and a full 1-litre container hold how much altogether? A. 1 litre B. 2 litres C. 3 litres.
Answer and explanation: C. 3 litres. Add amounts in the same unit: two plus one.
- Shapes: Which object is usually shaped like a sphere? A. Ball B. Dice C. Book.
Answer and explanation: A. Ball. A ball is approximately spherical, a die is a cube, and most books are cuboid-like.
- Pictograph: If one star symbol stands for two books, three stars represent how many books? A. 3 B. 5 C. 6.
Answer and explanation: C. 6. The pictograph key means 2 + 2 + 2 = 6.
- Pattern: What comes next: 3, 6, 9, 12, __? A. 13 B. 15 C. 18.
Answer and explanation: B. 15. Each step adds three, and 12 + 3 is 15.

Recheck the calculation using counters, drawings or the reverse operation. If you’re using the downloadable paper, ask your teacher about a confusing question or diagram.
What is the difference between practice questions and an official exam paper?
The questions written on this page are original study exercises. The PDF linked at the top is an earlier SCO Class 2 Maths paper from 2023–24. Current examination rules and syllabus can be found on the organiser’s own website.
Does SCO use the same exam questions as SOF?
No. School Connect Olympiad and Science Olympiad Foundation have separate competitions and question formats. Use the material for the exam your child is preparing to take.
How long should a Class 2 child practise?
Choose a small set of questions the child can understand and discuss. Take breaks when needed, and practise unfamiliar concepts with everyday objects before trying harder puzzles.
