IMO Class 3 Chapter 6: Weight Detailed Notes

We frequently compare the masses of various objects in daily life. By lifting or holding the objects in our hands, we can compare their masses and determine which is heavier or lighter. But everything we can lift or hold, as well as this kind of measurement, are only approximations.

Example: If we hold a pencil in one hand and a book in the other, it is evident that the book is heavier.

Weighing an object is another name for determining its mass. To consider objects, we employ various weighing scales or weighing equipment.

IMO Class 3 Chapter 6: Weight

When two objects weigh the same, the two weighing scale pans are said to be balanced and remain at the same level. However, when one object is heavy and the other is lighter, the pan holding the heavier object drops, while the pan is holding the lighter object rises.

To measure the masses of objects, we must use the proper units. The gram is the accepted unit of mass. Gram is represented with a “g.”

A kilogram is a larger unit made up of 1000 grams. The kilogram is abbreviated as kg.

1 kg = 1000 g, or 1000 g = 1 kg

We use grams to measure lighter objects and kilograms to measure heavier objects.
