Maths Olympiad Sample Papers 2026: Classes 3 to 12

Looking for Maths Olympiad sample papers for Classes 3–12? Start with the paper for your own class, enjoy solving the questions, and return to the matching answer key when you are ready to check your thinking. This guide brings together the 2026 SCO Maths sample-paper resource pages for all ten classes, useful class-wise learning articles, study advice and original practice questions.

The official 2026 resource pages are labelled Sample Paper 1 and offer a PDF download action. What Is a Level 2 Maths Olympiad Paper?

Some school Olympiad organisers use Level 2 to describe a more challenging or qualifying round. Eligibility, marks, duration, access to a particular paper and the qualification method depend on the organiser and cycle. Do not assume that a general Class 3–12 sample-paper directory contains a separate official Level 2 exam paper for every class. SCO publishes an IMO 2026 syllabus overview, 2026 Maths exam guide and class-wise resources to help pupils start from the right syllabus.

Five Steps to Learn From a Sample Paper

  • Read your own class syllabus and revise topics you have not yet studied.
  • Try a small set of questions without checking the answer key while working.
  • Afterwards, separate mistakes into misunderstandings, reading errors and calculation slips.
  • Explain the correct method using a drawing, equation or alternative approach.
  • Return to the difficult ideas a few days later with fresh practice questions.

Which Topics Suit Each School Stage?

ClassesA useful focusEnjoyable learning task
3–5Arithmetic, fractions, measurement, shapes and patternsUse a number line or a sharing story to explain a calculation
6–8Ratios, percentages, algebra and probabilityCheck an equation with substitution or draw a diagram
9–10Equations, polynomials, coordinate geometry and statisticsInterpret a graph and explain an algebraic step
11–12Functions, trigonometry, combinations and calculusExplain a proof, graph or multi-step result with clear working

A Four-Week Revision Plan

WeekPractice task
1Read the class syllabus; revise important concepts with short exercises
2Attempt the current class’s 2026 sample paper independently
3Study the answer key; correct errors and try related questions
4Review difficult topics again and practise explaining answers clearly

SCO Maths and Other Competitions Are Different

School Connect’s SCO International Maths Olympiad is an independent school competition. It is separate from the official high-school International Mathematical Olympiad, the American Mathematics Competitions, the Australian Mathematics Competition and UK Mathematics Trust. Each has different preparation resources, formats and selection rules, so participation in one does not automatically qualify a learner for another.

20 Original Maths Questions: Two for Every Class

The questions below are newly written examples for this guide. They begin with familiar Class 3 arithmetic and progress through algebra, geometry, probability and senior-school reasoning. They are not copies of the official SCO 2026 sample papers and not presented as exact Level 2 examination questions. Try your class’s two questions, then explore neighbouring levels if you’re interested.

Class 3 — Question 1

Six groups of seven stickers contain how many stickers?

A. 42   |   B. 36   |   C. 48   |   D. 49

Answer: A. 42. Six equal groups of seven make 6 × 7 = 42 stickers.

Class 3 — Question 2

A book has 48 pages and another has 27. How many pages together?

A. 65   |   B. 75   |   C. 85   |   D. 74

Answer: B. 75. Add 48 and 27: 48 + 20 = 68, then seven more makes 75.

Class 4 — Question 3

What is three-quarters of 36 marbles?

A. 9   |   B. 18   |   C. 27   |   D. 30

Answer: C. 27. One-quarter is nine marbles, so three quarters contain 3 × 9 = 27.

Class 4 — Question 4

A rectangle is 12 cm long and 5 cm wide. What is its perimeter?

A. 17 cm   |   B. 60 cm   |   C. 24 cm   |   D. 34 cm

Answer: D. 34 cm. Perimeter is the total of all sides: 12 + 5 + 12 + 5 = 34 cm.

Class 5 — Question 5

What is the lowest common multiple (LCM) of 6 and 8?

A. 24   |   B. 12   |   C. 48   |   D. 14

Answer: A. 24. Multiples of six include 6, 12, 18, 24; multiples of eight include 8, 16, 24. The first common multiple is 24.

Class 5 — Question 6

What is the area of a rectangle measuring 9 cm by 7 cm?

A. 16 cm²   |   B. 63 cm²   |   C. 32 cm²   |   D. 72 cm²

Answer: B. 63 cm². Area is length times width: 9 × 7 = 63 square centimetres.

Class 6 — Question 7

Two groups are in the ratio 2:3. There are 40 students. How many are in the first group?

A. 8   |   B. 20   |   C. 16   |   D. 24

Answer: C. 16. There are five equal ratio parts, each worth eight students. The first group has two parts, or 16 students.

Class 6 — Question 8

If x/4 + 3 = 10, what is x?

A. 7   |   B. 13   |   C. 40   |   D. 28

Answer: D. 28. Subtract three from both sides to get x/4 = 7. Multiply by four to obtain x = 28.

Class 7 — Question 9

What is −6 + 14?

A. 8   |   B. −8   |   C. 20   |   D. 6

Answer: A. 8. Start at negative six and move fourteen units right on a number line. You reach positive eight.

Class 7 — Question 10

Two angles of a triangle are 45° and 65°. Find the third angle.

A. 60°   |   B. 70°   |   C. 80°   |   D. 110°

Answer: B. 70°. The interior angles of a triangle add to 180°. Subtract 45° and 65° to get 70°.

Class 8 — Question 11

Calculate 3² × 3³.

A. 27   |   B. 81   |   C. 243   |   D. 729

Answer: C. 243. When multiplying powers with the same base, add their exponents: 3⁵ = 243.

Class 8 — Question 12

A bag has five blue and seven red counters. What is the probability of selecting blue?

A. 7/12   |   B. 5/7   |   C. 1/2   |   D. 5/12

Answer: D. 5/12. Five of the twelve equally likely counters are blue, giving probability 5/12.

Class 9 — Question 13

Solve 2x + 5 = 17.

A. x = 6   |   B. x = 5   |   C. x = 11   |   D. x = 12

Answer: A. x = 6. Subtract five to get 2x = 12, then divide by two: x = 6.

Class 9 — Question 14

Find the mean of 10, 12, 14 and 16.

A. 12   |   B. 13   |   C. 14   |   D. 16

Answer: B. 13. Their total is 52 and there are four values, so the mean is 52 ÷ 4 = 13.

Class 10 — Question 15

Find the roots of x² − 5x + 6 = 0.

A. −2 and −3   |   B. 1 and 6   |   C. 2 and 3   |   D. −1 and −6

Answer: C. 2 and 3. The quadratic factors as (x − 2)(x − 3) = 0, giving roots two and three.

Class 10 — Question 16

What is the slope of the line through (1, 2) and (5, 10)?

A. 1/2   |   B. 1   |   C. 4   |   D. 2
