Syllabus for IMO Class 2

The IMO Syllabus Class 2 for Maths Olympiad is identical to the school’s curriculum. In grade two, students are introduced to the formative aspects of mathematics. Math is an enthralling subject in which students learn to reason and solve problems. The syllabus of the IMO is divided into four sections:

Logical Reasoning – This section is intended to help students improve their learning abilities and feel comfortable approaching nonverbal and verbal reasoning on a variety of topics.

Mathematical Reasoning – Students must learn several methods for improving their mathematical reasoning by solving various types of mathematical problems.

Everyday Mathematics – The third section focuses on assisting students in developing problem-solving skills related to various mathematical concepts.

Achiever section – Students are evaluated on their fundamental mathematical skills in the final section. Because the core concepts are discussed in this segment, students must be familiar with the topics ahead of time in order to effectively handle various questions.

IMO Class 2 Chapter 3: Division Detailed Notes

What is Division?

A division is a method of dividing something into equal parts. It is one of the four basic arithmetic operations that produce a fair result of sharing.

The division is the inverse operation of multiplication. In multiplication, three groups of four equal twelve; in the division, three groups of four equal four.

The main goal of the division is to determine how many equal groups there are or how many people are in each group when sharing fairly.

For example:

How do you fit 16 balls into four equal-sized boxes when you only have four boxes?

As a result, each box should contain 4 balls.

Division Mathematical Notation

There are several signs that can be used to indicate division, including, ÷ or /.

For example 8 ÷ 2

For example 8 /2

Division characters have unique names.

Each component of a division equation has its own name.

Quotient = Dividend ÷ Divisor

Dividend: The dividend is the number divided during the division process.

Divisor: The number by which the dividend is divided is referred to as the divisor.

Quotient: A quotient is a result obtained during the division process.

Introduction to the remainder

The remainder is the amount of the dividend that remains after division. For example, when 83 is divided by 2, there is a leftover of 1.

It means that 83 ÷ 2 = 41 and r = 1

Special Facts About Division

When you divide something by 1, the result is always the original number. It means that if the divisor is 1, the quotient will always equal the dividend, as in 10 ÷ 1= 10.

Division by 0 is undefined.

When the dividend and divisor are the same, the division is always 1.

For instance, 4 ÷ 4 = 1.
