SCRATCH Extensions
SCRATCH Extensions are additional block features that can be incorporated into programs created in the SCRATCH Programming environment. These extensions enable users to access extra functionality for their projects, including interaction with additional hardware, advanced software capabilities, and web services. As a result, they provide users with more tools for creative learning.
Here are some popular Scratch Extensions:
Pen: This extension allows users to draw on the screen using the virtual pen and in turn enables creativity.
Video Sensing: This extension uses the webcam to detect motion and active interaction in a Scratch Project, allowing interactive, motion based games and animations.
Music: This block extension provides blocks for creating music and sounds, which includes playing instruments, composing the music and tempo and many more.
Text to Speech: The extension supports written text converting into speech and other variety of languages.
Translate: This extension integrates with Google Translate to allow the text to be translated into other different languages within a SCRATCH project.
Micro: This extension connects to BBC micro which is a small programmable device, allowing the Scratch project to interact with this hardware.
Lego Mindstorms EV3: This Scratch extension enables to control of Lego Mindstorms EV3 robots directly from the Scratch Program.
Makey Makey: This Scratch extension integrates with Makey Makey hardware, allowing Scratch projects to respond to physical inputs like pressing buttons or other conductive materials.
LEGO Education WeDo 2.0: This is the Scratch extension which allows Scratch projects to control LEGO WeDo 2.0 motors and sensors.
To access extensions in SCRATCH, simply click on the “Extension” button located at the bottom left of the SCRATCH editor. This will redirect users to the extension options page, where they can choose the specific extension to be used in their Scratch program.
