The three-hour Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM) will be co-hosted by the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT), and the Mathematics Teachers Association of India (MTAI). The information about the test is all listed here.

Different Stages of Mathematical Olympiad
Previous years have seen the teams representing India in the International Mathematical Olympiad chosen by a traditional three-stage process. For the benefit of the students, the year cycle selection process is described here.
Stage 1 – Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM)
The Mathematics Teachers’ Association (India) is in charge of the first-stage examination known as the Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM).
- Date: September Time: 10:00 to 13:00 hours (IST)
- Duration: 3 hours
- Total marks: 100
- The answer to each question is an integer in the range 00-99. No negative marking. OMR-based exam.
- Composition of the paper: 10 questions of 2 marks each; 10 questions of 3 marks each; 10 questions of 5 marks each.
Stage 2 – Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO)
- Date: October ; Time: 13:00 to 16:00 hrs
- Duration: 3 hours
- Number of questions: 06
- Each question requires writing detailed proof.
Stage 3 – Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO)
- Date: January; Time: 12:00 to 16:30 Hrs.
- Number of questions: 06
- Duration: 4.5 hours
- Each question requires writing detailed proof.
Eligibility for IOQM (Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics)
- Students born between August 1, 2004 and January 1, 2011, and studying in Class 8, 9,10, 11 or 12, are eligible to write IOQM 2023.
- The pupils have to be qualified to obtain an Indian passport. Students holding OCI cards may be able to take the IOQM 2023 provisionally, according to the requirements outlined in the attached PDF.
- The student must be enrolled in an Indian school system OR have been living and studying in India since October 30, 2021, or earlier.
- The kid couldn’t have qualified for (or been scheduled to take in) the class 12 board test before October 30, 2023.
- By June 1, 2024, the student must not have started (or planned to start) attending a university or other comparable institution.
- The INMO 2023 Awardees may write INMO 2024 directly without having to first qualify through IOQM 2023 and RMO 2023, as long as they meet the age requirements listed in point no. 1, haven’t started (or plan to start) their studies in a university or other comparable institution by June 1, 2024, and meet the requirements for both IMO 2024 and EGMO 2025.
Please be aware that OCI students cannot represent India in EGMO 2025 or IMO 2024. - The onus will be on the student to make sure the aforementioned requirements are met. A student may be removed from the program if it is discovered at a later time that they do not match the eligibility requirements.
IOQM Syllabus
- Pre-degree college mathematics is the curriculum for the regional, national, and worldwide Mathematical Olympiads.
- The subjects covered include: elementary combinatorics, probability theory and number theory, finite series and complex numbers, geometry, algebraic arithmetic, trigonometry, coordinate geometry, the system of linear equations, permutations and combinations, factorization of polynomials, inequalities, and elementary graph theory.
- Statistics and calculus are not included in the syllabus.
- Algebra, combinatorics, geometry, and number theory are the main subject areas from which questions are provided.
- Although the syllabus is divided into classes XI and XII, each topic has extremely complex and challenging problems. The degree of difficulty rises as you move from RMO to INMO to IMO.
