NSEP Eligibility Criteria

Since 1987, India has hosted the National Standard Examination in Physics (NSEP). The Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT) administers an optional exam, which helps choose students to compete in the International Olympiad of Science. It is anticipated that two lakh students worldwide would sit for the exam, which will be administered in about 1500 places. A variety of them are also found in cities and towns. Each year, the NSEP qualifying requirements are maintained low to promote test-taking among a broad number of students. The NSEP exam is administered at over 1600 places nationwide, with over two lakh students registering for it. The year’s NSEP eligibility requirements are as follows.

Eligibility Requirements for NSEP

  • An Indian citizen is required in order to take the NSEP exam.
  • The candidate’s birthday, including both days, must fall between July 1, 2001, and June 30, 2006.
  • The applicant must have resided and completed their education in India by November 30, 2017 or before.
  • Before November 30, 2021, students cannot have taken the Class 12 board test.
  • By June 1, 2021, the candidate cannot have enrolled in or be preparing to enroll in courses at a university or other comparable institution.
  • The nominee is not qualified to compete in the 2021 NSEJS.
  • Ten scholarships in total will be given out to students to motivate them to major in physics. Candidates can apply for NSEP scholarships if they want to be admitted to a B.Sc. degree (with physics).

The second stage of the Indian National Science Olympiad will be open to those who qualify with a high rank in the 500 range. The Homi Bhabha Center for Science Education (HBCSE) will conduct an orientation and final selection for candidates who score in the 30–40 range. These candidates will proceed to the next phase. Ultimately, the HBCSE will organize a pre-departure camp where the top four candidates will be selected. On behalf of India, the participants selected here will now compete in the International Olympiad.
