Bangladesh Chemistry Olympiad (BdChO)

A highly sought-after annual competition, the Bangladesh Chemistry Olympiad (BdChO) is organised in Bangladesh to encourage young minds to pursue careers in chemistry.
Students from high schools throughout the country compete in this event and prepare to represent Bangladesh in the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO).

Overview of BdChO

1. Foundation and Purpose:
   • The foundation of BdChO was laid to foster knowledge and excellence in chemistry and identify young talents.
   • The entire objective of this exam is to encourage students to study and excel in chemistry and pursue greatness in chemistry and related fields.
2. Organization:
   • Organized by the Bangladesh Chemical Society (BCS).
   • And managed by the Bangladesh Chemistry Olympiad Committee (BdChOC).
3. Structure of the Competition:
   • Regional Olympiads: The competition is held at various regional levels and top candidates are selected to participate at the national level.
   • National Olympiad: All the top performers of each region qualify to participate in the National Level.
   • Training Camps: A rigorous training camp is organised for all selected students and they are put into various knowledge sessions chemistry via workshops to prepare for IChO.
4. Participation:
   • High school students across Bangladesh participate in this exam.
   • The competition is divided into different categories based on the age group and educational level.
5. Content:
   • The syllabus for BdChO covers various areas of chemistry, including organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, and analytical chemistry also students can refer to the School Connect Olympiad – Science Olympiad.
   •  The Olympiad is the talent examination which emphasizes on theoretical knowledge, practical skills, everyday chemistry and problem–solving abilities. 
6. Impact:
   • BdChO encourages students to dive into a deeper understanding of advanced chemistry and its relation in practical life.
   • Excellent opportunity for students with an opportunities to compete internationally and gain recognition.

Preparation for BdChO

1. Study Materials:
   • Important for students to study past papers from BdChO and IChO and register for the School Connect Olympiad – Science Olympiad Exam
   • Suggestion to follow standard chemistry textbooks, such as “Chemistry: The Central Science” by Brown, LeMay, and Bursten.
   • Academic resources on chemical problem-solving techniques and laboratory practices.
2. Training Programs:
   • Participation in school chemistry clubs and online study groups.
   • Attending preparatory courses or special training camps organized by BdChOC.
3. Practice:
   • Regular practice of theoretical and experimental chemistry problems.
   • Collaboration with peers to solve complex problems and conduct experiments.

Achievements

• It is now evident that Bangladesh is actively participating in IChO and now it has progressively improved its performance in the IChO.
• Students now getting good learning and are now well prepared for the International competion in Chemistry,and for this all credit goes to BdChO.
